Although many new patients are anxious about this initial appointment, we’ve found that knowing what to expect can help you feel more confident. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what your complimentary consultation with us will encompass!
Your first visit with McMurphy Orthodontics
The first visit to our Biloxi or Ocean Springs office is one of the most important appointments you’ll have with this. It’s our chance to meet and get to know a bit about each other, discuss the concerns you have about your smile, and perform an orthodontic evaluation. No matter which location you choose, you’ll be sure to receive a warm welcome!
After being introduced to some of our talented team members, we’ll give you a brief tour of the office and then your medical and dental history. Next up is collecting your diagnostic records! These records generally include digital photographs of your teeth and overall bite. We’ll usually opt to take some x-rays as well. These images give us a good look at what’s happening underneath your smile! Seeing your teeth along with the soft tissues and underlying bone provides us with a deeper understanding of your overall oral health and unique needs.
Following this, you’ll be introduced to Dr. McMurphy, and he’ll perform a thorough examination of your mouth. This painless inspection will help us identify any orthodontic issues that may need attention, whether now or in the future.
We never want you to feel like we’re rushing you through your appointments with us, especially this one! You should expect to spend about an hour with us during your first visit, which gives us plenty of time to perform the exam, discuss your diagnosis, and address any questions you may have about the treatment process. We’ll also cover other important topics like:
- if treatment is recommended right away
- what treatment options are available to you
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total investment required for your new smile
- any payment or financing options available to you

What comes next?
In some cases, we may be able to start treatment the same day as your consultation! When this isn’t possible, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to come in and have your orthodontic appliance placed or fitted. We do our best to make this appointment a positive and stress-free experience for you! You’ll have access to our team throughout your visit should you have any questions or concerns about the process.
Whatever appliance you choose with Dr. McMurphy, follow-up visits will be an important part of your treatment plan. You’ll be scheduled to see us every 4-8 weeks so that we can check your progress and adjust your appliance if necessary. If you’re wearing braces, Dr. McMurphy may choose to change out your wires at this time as well.
We’ll always try to schedule these appointments for a day and time that’s convenient for you, but we know that life isn’t always predictable! If you find yourself running behind or can’t make your appointment for any reason, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can get it rescheduled for you. This will keep your treatment on track and help you achieve the results you’re looking for in the least amount of time possible.
